| icosahedra |
Type member: Bdellovibrio phage MAC 1
Contents
General Description
This is one of the genera in the family
Microviridae. Members infect infect epsilon-purple bacteria (
Bdellovibrio species).
Morphology
Virions isometric (icosahedral), not enveloped, 26-32 nm in diameter with small surface projections.
Genome
Monopartite, positive sense, circular ssDNA about 5 kb in length.
Genus Genomic Organization
Only Bdellovibrio phage phiMH2K has been sequenced and this has 6 closely spaced major ORFs, with up to 5 other minor ORFs identified by computer prediction which may or may not be expressed:
| ORF | kDa | Note |
| 1 | 60.1 | Major coat protein P1 |
| 2 | 21.5 | VP2 |
| 3 | 16.9 | VP3 |
| 4 | 9.6 | VP5 |
| 5 | 4.4 | Putative DNA binding protein |
| 6 | 37.2 | VP4 |
The five minor ORFs identified are nested within the others: Z (7.5 kDa), Y (7.2 kDa), X (8.0 kDa), W (5.9 kDa) and N (12.0 kDa).
Type Member Genomic Organization
There are no sequence data for the type member.
